The present study dsals with narcissisim experienced in a group but not with collective, national, or group narcissism. The term"narcsissim" was derived from the Greek myth of Narcissus. It was used by Freud as a sexual perversion, a developmental stage (primary narcissim), and as a regressive stage (secondary narcssism). The presence of a narcssistic personality in a group stirs psychotic fears, and annihilation anxiety which, if they are not dealt with therapeutically, will lead to stagnaion, and finally dissolution of the group. The preent study has two main implications: one therapeutical and the other theoretical. The former concerns how to deal therapeutically with the narcissistic membaer as an individual phenaomenon. The latter points at the importance and advantage of conceiving narcississm as a mental state comprising two complementary relational factors, one concerned with self-love and the other wih hate of the group.
